Korine was born into a large family of seven children. Being the second oldest child, she was given many opportunities to learn music. She began piano lessons at the age of three and violin lessons at the age of five. In sixth grade, Korine was asked to accompany her school orchestra on the piano and in seventh grade she played piano for the schools eighth grade graduation. This was also the year that she began studying with a former professor in Lake Oswego where she had a rigorous two hour lesson each week. While in Junior High, she continued to play the violin, viola and sometimes cello in the school orchestra.
As a junior in High School, Korine accompanied the school orchestra, the concert choir and a select group of singers called the “Cantalinas”. She also had the privilege of playing for the school musicals “Fiddler on the Roof” and “Oklahoma”. Korine earned her way into the prestigious Portland Youth Philharmonic where she played violin for three years performing at various schools, the Keller Auditorium (formerly the Civic Auditorium) and the Arlene Schnitzer hall.
Upon graduating from High School, Korine began teaching piano and violin privately having as many as 22 students at one time. Since then she has continued teaching piano, violin, cello, viola and even voice lessons to many students. Korine has also played for several summer musicals in Canby such as: “Oklahoma”, “Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat”, and Robin Hood. She has been an active member of the Canby Community Orchestra, playing violin and viola, for the past ten years.
Korine is also an active member at her church in Canby. She began playing piano for the services when she was in High School and continues to use her musical training at church as she teaches and accompanies a variety of choirs ranging from young children to adult.
Outside of teaching, Korine enjoys being a “homemaker” and spending time with her “best friend” (hubby, Jeremy, of 16 years) and four beautiful children Kyleen-age 14, Kyler-12, Kaden-10 and Kaleen-8 who collectively are learning to play many instruments including the piano, guitar, ukulele, drums and harp. She is also an avid scrap booker and has completed over 100 albums for friends and family.
Korine is excited to have joined Youth Music Project and is looking forward to interacting with others who are interested in learning about music as well.
