“Hello, my name is Devon McKenna. My love for music, children and new adventures has led me to become a teacher at the Youth Music Project.
I grew up in Montana with loving parents, an older brother and a house full of dogs. After high school, I moved to Bellingham, Washington. I attended Western Washington University and received a BA in Music and a minor in Sociology.
I graduated with a Master of Arts in Teaching from Concordia University in Portland. I have an initial 1 teaching license from the Teachers Standard Practicing Organization of Oregon. I am endorsed in Early Childcare and Elementary education. I also received first aid and CPR certifications from the Red Cross in 2011.
The summer after graduation, I worked as a Pre School Teacher and then became a substitute teacher in the Portland area including West Linn – Wilsonville SD, Lake Oswego SD, David Douglas SD and more. Substitute teaching this past year has given me an unbelievable opportunity to experience many different classrooms. I have substitute taught in many music classrooms as well as general classes ranging from kindergarten through high school. I have also been teaching violin lessons after school and working at the School of Rock in South East Portland coaching voice students. Through these wonderful experiences I have been able to discover my passion for teaching and my ability to help students discover their love for music.”
